On 13 November 2026, the Van Abbemuseum will open the Lemmens & Stommels Study Centre in the museum library, in the presence of Emilia Kabakov. This marks the celebratory conclusion of the donation of a collection of more than 17,000 books by and about artists connected to the Russian-speaking world, donated by Albert Lemmens (1948-2022) and Serge Stommels (1967).
On this occasion, we will also present the publication The LS Collection: Books by and About Artists Touched by a Life In, Out Of, and Through Russia and open the new library exhibition Constellations of Collectivity, featuring works from the LS Collection.
We will celebrate the day by reflecting on the major undertaking of cataloguing and making this substantial collection accessible through the museum. The programme will also include conversations with the publication’s authors about their research.
